Whether your doctorate is funded by an organisation for the promotion of young talent (Begabtenf\u00f6rderungswerk), another scholarship sponsor, research assistant position at university, Research Training Group or a research project, it is worth asking whether separate funds are available for material costs.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Begabtenf\u00f6rderungswerke scholarships (organisations for the promotion of young talent)<\/strong> usually include a lump sum for research costs (formerly “book allowance”). However, additional funds can usually be applied for to finance research abroad. <\/p>\n\n\n\n

For some of the other funding organisations, material costs incurred must already be indicated when the initial application is submitted. These should not be calculated too tightly. <\/p>\n\n\n\n

Besides these, there are a number of other funding options for material costs incurred in connection with the doctorate. The GSHS office will be happy to advise you. <\/p>\n\n\n\n

Gutenberg Academy Fellows Program<\/a><\/strong> Financial and non-material grants for outstanding young talents in the arts and sciences at JGU (application required, subject to two-year membership, nomination once a year)<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Measures to promote gender equality<\/strong><\/a>: some faculties have separate gender equality funds for academics in early career phases<\/p>\n\n\n\n
