The GSHS works very closely with supervisors in the humanities and social sciences at JGU.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

It is not uncommon for doctoral candidates to feel inhibited about approaching their supervisor(s) directly with problems or questions that go beyond the purely academic. We offer a low-threshold, confidential advisory service that can open up new perspectives. If necessary, we can also refer to more specialised advice services<\/a><\/strong>. The aim is always to strengthen doctoral candidates in exercising personal responsibility and thus contributing to the educational goals associated with a doctorate in the humanities or social sciences. <\/p>\n\n\n\n

Of course, you are also welcome to contact us (confidentially if necessary) if you have any questions about the supervision or qualifications of your doctoral candidates.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

In cooperation with the Research and Technology Transfer department<\/strong><\/a> (in German) the GSHS is also responsible for supporting research networks involving the humanities and social sciences in applying for and implementing structured measures for the qualification and support of young researchers.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

We will be happy to advise you on appropriate qualification options for your doctoral candidates and to collaborate on joint projects.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

For the humanities and social sciences, the GSHS provides both a checklist for initial discussions at the beginning of the doctorate<\/a><\/strong> and a checklist for the regular supervision meetings<\/a><\/strong>. Not all topics are equally relevant for all doctoral projects, so the checklists should not be seen as an obligation, but rather as a working aid. <\/p>\n\n\n\n

The GSHS recommends all doctoral candidates (irrespective of the type of doctoral funding they have) to take advantage of the many benefits of enrolling as a doctoral student<\/a><\/strong>. We also recommend adding a second supervisor<\/a><\/strong> to the supervision agreement within 12 months of starting the doctorate, unless this has already been done at the beginning of the doctorate. <\/p>\n\n\n\n
