The funding obtained for the doctorate (position or scholarship) is not always sufficient to complete the doctoral dissertation and finance the transition phase at the end of the doctorate. Though final phase scholarships that would enable you to concentrate on your doctoral thesis in the last few months are frequently sought, they are unfortunately very rarely available in practice (for research opportunities for scholarships, see here). There is currently no scholarship programme at JGU that specifically covers this need.
This makes it all the more important to keep an eye on funding and time management throughout the doctorate, not just shortly before the funding runs out, and to discuss with the supervisor how funding gaps can be avoided or what solutions can be considered if any do occur.
