The Regulations for Safeguarding Good Research Practice and Dealing with Research Misconduct at JGU (in German) apply to all university staff, regardless of their status, i.e. academic staff, administrative and technical staff and students, as well as to all persons who are pursuing a doctoral or habilitation project at JGU supervised by a member of JGU, even if they are not members of JGU themselves.

Members of the GSHS undertake to comply with the rules of good research practice. This obligation is also set out in the various templates used at JGU for supervision agreements.

As the German Research Foundation states in its Guidelines for Safeguarding Good Research Practice research integrity is more than just the avoidance of violations. It is an ethical requirement for research activity, for dealing with the ideas and results of others, for compliance with academic and ethical standards, e.g. in data collection and experiments, but above all for the reliability of research commensurate with its social responsibility.

Particularly in the initial phase of the doctorate, there is the challenge of managing an extensive project in which large quantities of both the researcher’s own findings and self-generated data as well as the intellectual property of others, for example from the research literature, must be reliably collected, documented and processed.

However, questions of research integrity also arise in collaboration with other scholars (e.g. in research projects and publications).

In addition to the specific subjects and methods offerings at the individual chairs, in working groups or research training groups, in the project Academic Integrity (in German) the Johannes Gutenberg University also provides a range of resources for teaching good research practice and preventing misconduct. These include advice, toolboxes for students and teaching staff as well as workshops (in cooperation with the Mainz University Library, the General Postgraduate Program and the Writing Center).

You can find information, events and advice on the handling, storage, publication and subsequent use of research data from the Research Data Experts.
