The first step should always be to clarify your personal goals and the general requirements you need to fulfil for the doctorate.
Most doctorates in the humanities and social sciences in Germany are individual doctorates.
There are no fixed deadlines or selection procedures for an individual doctorate. Rather, you agree your topic individually with a supervisor and the precise conditions (e.g. scope, time planning, methods, supervision arrangements/expectations between doctoral candidate and supervisor, possible funding), you clarify the formal requirements of your doctorate and then apply for acceptance as a doctoral candidate at JGU.
In this case, the first step is to identify and contact a suitable supervisor at JGU and convince them of your doctoral project.
The respective faculties or rectorates are responsible for accepting you as a doctoral candidate. In addition to your supervisor, the Dean’s Office or Rectorate of your faculty can also advise you on all formal questions relating to acceptance as a doctoral candidate.
