According to the Rhineland-Palatinate University Act, all JGU doctoral candidates are required to register by applying for acceptance as a doctoral candidate at the respective faculty.
For all administrative and legal questions regarding your doctoral degree assessment procedure, please contact the Dean’s Offices of the faculties or schools. These often have their own doctoral offices. The regulations and procedures governing the doctorate specify which requirements you must meet in order to be admitted to a doctoral programme, how the doctoral degree assessment procedure works and which doctoral requirements you must fulfill.
If all formal requirements are met, you can submit the application for acceptance as a doctoral student via the JOGU-StINe portal.
For this you need the confirmation from a supervisor of their willingness of supervision of a supervisor and a provisional working title for your doctoral dissertation. In addition, the doctoral field must be stated. If you have obtained the degree entitling you to a doctorate (e.g. master’s degree) abroad, you must also apply via JOGU-StINe for the recognition of your foreign educational qualifications via JOGU-StINe.
You must then print out the proposal for acceptance as a doctoral candidate and submit it to your faculty with the signature of your supervisor and all other documents. Once your proposal has been accepted, you will receive an official notification from your faculty. From this point on, you are registered doctoral candidate of JGU and receive access to specific services and participation opportunities (e.g. JGU doctoral candidate account, offers of the Gutenberg Academyeligibility to vote and be elected to the doctoral student representation), as well as the opportunity to become a GSHS full membership full membership.
Parallel to acceptance as a doctoral candidate (or even at a later date), enrolment as a doctoral student can also be applied for. This is not obligatory, but is recommended by the GSHS.
